About the Author
Thomas R. Baechle, EdD, CSCS,*D; NSCA-CPT,*D, competed in Olympic-style weightlifting and powerlifting and was an instructor of weight training and a strength and conditioning coach for 20 years. Currently he is a professor and chair of the exercise science and athletic training department at Creighton University, where he directed a phase III cardiac rehabilitation for 16 years. He is a cofounder and past president of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is the executive director of the NSCA Certification Commission.
Baechle has been recognized as the force behind the creation of the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer examination programs. He has received the NSCAÆs most coveted awards: Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year and Lifetime Achievement. Baechle also served as president of the National Organization of Competency Assurance and has served on various other regional, national, and international boards. This book is one of 12 texts authored, coauthored, or edited by Baechle. Two of his books have been translated into 10 languages, including the popular Fitness Weight Training that was also coauthored by Roger Earle.
Roger Earle, MA, CSCS,*D; NSCA-CPT,*D, is the associate executive director and director of examination development for the NSCA Certification Commission. He is responsible for reviewing and editing the CSCS and NSCA-CPT exams and for developing study resources with Thomas Baechle, including the Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning and NSCAÆs Essentials of Personal Training texts.
EarleÆs 20 years of experience as a personal trainer, combined with his role as a college weight training instructor and his position as a Division I strength and conditioning coach for nine years, prepared him well for his numerous national and international conference presentations on the topic of designing strength training programs for athletes of all sports and fitness levels. Earle received his undergraduate and masterÆs degrees in exercise science. For eight years, he served as a faculty member of the exercise science and athletic training department at Creighton University.
